HELLLOOO. So I’ve been taking the last two weeks to figure out what is getting me good and excited in pop culture. Here are the things I can’t live without the last few weeks.
1. Foo Fighters new album “Wasting Light”
I have always been a huge Foo Fighters fan. Prior to falling in love with the Black Crowes, Foo was my most favorite band. With this new album, they have definitely cemented themselves as my #2. The first single, “Rope,” is very good but there are definitely even better songs on this album that will blow your mind. Listen to it from start to finish, like we did back in the day when we actually purchased CDs. You will be listening to it almost non-stop like I have been. My top picks on the album: “Bridges Burn,” “These Days,” “A Matter of Time,” “Walk,” and my first place: “Arlandria”, a killer track. And just an added bonus, I have always found David Grohl super sexy.
2. Game of Thrones, HBO’s new Sunday night series
So this show is basically Lord of the Rings meets cinemax porn. I forget which, but either the producer or director stated in Entertainment Weekly (my bible) that in LOTR, you could never tell that the people got horny. So he clearly wanted to change that image with this show. And I loved the movie trilogy. I dig burly men and fantasy movies. The show is based on George R.R. Martin’s cult book series, A Song of Fire and Ice. “Game of Thrones” is the story of “seven noble families fighting for control of the mythical land of Westeros,” as stated in IMDB. The plots are interesting, the action is great, the sets are similar to the scale of LOTR. It even stars Sean Bean, who was also in LOTR “The Fellowship…” Each episode (2 so far) have ended in sick cliffhangers, which have definitely kept me wanting more. I need my Sunday night premiem tv and have been missing having a show on HBO or Showtime to ease the pain of the weekend ending. I’m happy to have found one again. And this actor, Kit Harington, who plays “the bastard” Jon Snow, is one of the hottest new actors I’ve seen in a long time. YUUUUUUMMY. This show definitely offers excellent eye candy for both sexes.
3. Freaks and Geeks from Netflix
This show stars some of the best of our generation when they were babies (aka teenagers). James Franco, Jason Segel, Seth Rogen, Busy Phillippes, and plenty other people you will recognize starred in this show produced by Judd Apatow, that gave most of these guys their first jobs. It’s a high school comedy (with some dramatic moments), set in the 80s, that depicts stoner “freaks” and geeky nerds. It has classic one-liners and lots of laughs. Craig and I are really enjoying it. This is a much watch for Judd Apatow fans and anyone who likes the aforementioned stars. It’s only one season (shockingly) so you can watch it quickly on Netflix. And it’s fun to crush on Jason and James when they were so young!
4. Real Housewives on Bravo
So I know these women are all awful, but I can’t stop watching these shows. Between the blondies from Orange County and the rich bitches from New York, I am getting my RH fill good right now. The cat fights are so fun to watch and I think these ladies are showing me what kind of people I hope to never be. Note to Alex: if you need to chug cocktails every time you are around these people, you should probably stop hanging out with them. One of my (many) guilty pleasures.
5. Adele’s album 21
I can not get enough of this woman! I’m still obsessing over this album and this voice. If you haven’t downloaded it yet, do it this instant. This album will actually get me to watch the next Grammys (I typically don’t because I don’t believe in music awards. I don’t feel that they can really compare music that way). I just want to watch Adele sweep. “I’ll Be Waiting” is still my favorite song on the album but every single song is amazing. Also listen to this one from start to finish.
6. IDOL, OBVIOUSLY!
We are down to the final five and I am proud to say that my two favorites from the start, James and Haley, are among the five. If you haven’t wanted to watch this before, now is the perfect time to start. The show is always stellar in the last few weeks and these kids are INCREDIBLE. On a related note….
7. The Voice
I watched the first episode of this show over the weekend and I did not expect much. I ended up really enjoying it. I think that is because I am fans of all four “coaches,” Christina, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, and Blake Shelton, and this show is like hanging out with them. Well if they were bickering for most of the time. I don’t know if I’ll keep up with the program every week but I definitely enjoyed the premiere and will watch it when I can. Check out this crazy cool version of Nirvana’s “Come as You Are,” sung beautifully by a homeless singer named Rebecca Loebe. She’s been living in her car touring the country singing. I think she’s stellar.
8. Kate’s dress by Sara Burton for Alexander McQueen
Just Gorgeous. I absolutely love the lace sleeves. As a Jewish female, we are supposed to have our shoulders covered as well (Royals are too). I’m probably not going to have a traditional Jewish wedding, but if I did, I would absolutely love a dress similar to this. She looked absolutely stunning. WOW. Now she just needs to go to New Orleans and put back on a few lbs.
9. How I Met Your Mother Season 6
This season is one of the best ever. Every week this show is laugh-out-loud funny. Craig and I have rented every season on Netflix and love this show dearly. The characters talk and hang out the way we really do and I think they are at the same age/life stages as me and my friends. It’s like a more age-appropriate “Friends.” This is definitely one of my favorite sitcoms of all time. And I have a total girl crush on Robin/Colbie Smulders. She is hilarious and gorgeous.
10. Okay so sometimes I make mistakes…
I am actually really digging SOME of Britney’s album and have been listening to it a lot lately. Mostly at the gym or in the car on Wednesdays when I drive to L.I. and need to be woken up. There are about 5 songs (other than the radio singles) that have grown on me and are actually really catchy. If you are interested, check out “(Drop Dead) Beautiful,” “Trouble for Me,” “Gasoline,” “Selfish,” and what should be the next single “I Wanna Go.” I am sorry for judging you to fast Brit Brit. I listened to the album in the morning before I had had my coffee.
