Everytime I read about this show, I read how it’s one of the best and most-watched new shows on tv. It deserves to be! This show has me cracking up every episode. Zooey Deschanel is wonderful. She is super cute and funny. This is another one of those shows where the cast chemistry is off the charts. I love and crush on Schmidt and Nick. They are soooo funny. Schmidt has tons of funny lines about being Jewish which I always appreciate. If you haven’t started watching this show, you best be startin because it’s awesome!
This show started last year and I watched it occasionally, but I have fallen for it hard this year. The wit and references are hilarious and the cast is amazing. I love how, other than Elisha Cuthbert, they are pretty much unknowns. I wish these were my actual friends. And Jane (Eliza Coupe) and Brad (Damon Wayans Jr.) are one of my all time favorite tv couples, allready up there with Lily and Marshall (How I Met). I just love their witty banter and their ability to keep each other on their toes and throw out references left and right together. Each one of the 6 main cast members is a stellar comedian, meant to be stars. I have always loved the Wayans and I’m happy to have one back in the spotlight. I feel like this is a must watch sitcom!
American Horror Story
This show has honestly gotten better and better as the season has progressed and it has become my go-to hump day treat. The twists keep coming and the list of characters/guest stars continues to grow in a way that has a celeb dork like me giddy. My new kudos goes to Kate Mara, who plays Hayden. She is so good at being vicious and twisted, while also being one of the more likeable characters. Playing a dead person must be fun! This show is so unique and the constant twists and turns have made me fall hard for it this first season.
This movie had been on my to-see list for as long as I can remember. I finally watched it the other night and it was worth the wait. The accents make it super funny but it also has lots of action and intrigue. The acting is stellar and I remember being young(er) and watching Francis McDormand win the Oscar. She deserved it without a doubt. This movie was a real tour de force for Steve Buscemi as well, who I have always liked immensely. This movie is an excellent black comedy and I look forward to watching it many more times. You’re darn tootin!
Okay, so me being obsessed with this took place more like a month ago, but I never posted about it then. Their new(er) album Mylo Xyloto is amazing, particularly the following songs: Hurts Like Heaven, Paradise, Charlie Brown, and Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall. If you only want to spend a few bucks on downloading just a few songs, get these. Their sick.
Florence & the Machine
I downloaded their last album (Lungs) and found that I only liked a few of the songs. But I absolutely loved those songs (Dog Days are Over, of course, You’ve Got the Love). I just recently got their new album, Ceremonials. I feel the the same about this album. The majority of it I didn’t like at all. But the few songs I do enjoy, I love. Download these: Shake It Off, No Light No Light, and Leave My Body instead of purchasing the whole thing. Unless you like this sort of opera/church/idontknowwhat sort of music.
Thanksgiving dinner at Blue Water Grill
Thanksgiving fell in the recent aftermath of my parents splitting, so I decided to do my own thing rather than choose one to spend it with (too soon). A group of us decided to pick a nice restaurant and do a special prix fix meal. We went to Blue Water Grill in Union Square. It was AMAZING!!! The price was $45 a person, which we all felt was a really good price for the large quantity and spectacular quality of the food. We all had different apps: Oyster plate, lobster bisque, pumpkin ravioli, and fig and goat cheese tart (me). Then a delicious huge plate of traditional turkey etc and for dessert, I had an gala apple crumb crisp with caramel ice cream. This was as good as apple crisp gets. If you live in NYC and have never eaten here, or at their sister restaurants (i.e. Atlantic Grill, one of my all time favorite restaurants), go ASAP!!
I bought a $20 for $10 groupon for this place. It’s on York Ave between 84 and 83 and I swear I never saw it before I went today. I expected it to be a place where you order at the counter and then sit down. Instead, it was a jam-packed adorable little cafe. I split two savory crepes, the Bonjour (Fried Egg and Ham, and Mozzarella) and the Fungi (Sautéed Mushroom, Spinach, Ricotta, Caramelized Onion and Mozzarella). They complimented each other wonderfully and came with a perfect little mixed green salad with balsamic vinaigrette. If you live in the Upper East Side or Midtown East, this is a perfect lunch or brunch spot. I’m especially a big fan because I did not notice the disclosure that my groupon would not work during Sunday brunch, but they took it anyway. Much appreciated!
And now something I am definitely NOT obsessed with:
This movie got all kinds of crazy amazing reviews and has lots of Oscar buzz. Well George Clooney was excellent, as he normally is. Shailene Woodley, who is getting all kinds of buzz for her role as his daughter, was very good and natural, like it didn’t seem like she was acting. However, overall I found it too long, boring, and depressing. Not a great combo! It really is about watching someone who is in a coma die and saying goodbye and the movie is way too long to be basically that and nothing else.
