I am going to be very open about this: I was an enormous ‘N SYNC fan. I saw them in concert a couple of times, had their albums, sang along to every song on the radio. I had been a Justin and JC fan since MMC (the Mickey Mouse Club) and am a big JT fan to this day (even though I think his newest album pales in comparison to his last). The exciting ‘N SYNC news this week is that they are expected to perform in a reunion of sorts this upcoming Sunday at MTV’s VMA’s (Video Music Awards). This should be a really fun performance and you know they are going to knock it out of the park. Who doesn’t love 90s nostalgia??
NY Magazine has an amazing online component called The Cut, described as a site for women who want to view the latest fashion and beauty trends, read provocative takes on current issues, and follow celebrity news. The site is separated into Fashions, Fame, Beauty, Goods, and Love & War (relationship-based news or stories) , and is a great website you will want to add to your must-view list. The Cut featured earlier today a hilarious walk-down-memory-lane-style slideshow showcasing some of ‘N SYNC’s most 90’s fabulous, far-out, silly/awful boy band outfits that I wanted to share with you all. The hair is bad enough, with Justin’s dubbed as “ramen hair” by The Cut (genius!), Chris’s braids are a catastrophe, and every member taking turns experimenting with totally whacked out do’s. But the outfits are just too much and are such a reflection of the boy band sensibility/mentality of the time period. Here are a few of my favorite group shots below. And please click on the link at the bottom to see the whole slideshow on The Cut.
Mish Mosh Formal Wear: September 1998
At what must be a Hideous Jacket Convention: May 1999
Dressing as Mutant Ninja Turtles for Halloween? September 1999
Just wrong in every which way: June 2000
Out to prove that pants can be horrendous too: September 2000
Performing as Teletubbies: December 2000
Because the first Hideous Jacket Convention was such a blast: February 2001
All in good fun!! ‘N SYNC fan since forever and looking forward to the performance!
