I was very disturbed today when I started hearing and reading about Rachel Frederickson, last night’s winner of NBC‘s The Biggest Loser. The only woman finalist, Frederickson was 260 pounds when she began her journey on the NBC show. In the finale of the 15th season, the 24-year-old weighed in at just 105 pounds, losing almost 60 percent of her body weight. Frederickson appears skeletal. As we know the camera adds ten pounds (it really, truly does, I have lots of examples of proof), then she absolutely looks unhealthy skinny in person.

Even the coaches agreed. Trainers Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels were concerned by Frederickson’s reveal during last night’s finale. Check out their bewildered and distressed/pained expressions. You can also read Michael’s lips as she whispers, “Oh my god,” to Harper in the clip below.

When sent home from “the ranch,” the finalists do not return to work or their post-show lives. They spend the majority of their time working out and burning as many calories as they want. Therefore, they have the opportunity and the motivation to go nuts/off the deep end at the gym and take the weight loss project too far, as evidenced by Frederickson. The fact that the more you lose, the closer you are to $250,000 inspires hours upon hours of obsessive exercising and calorie counting. Of course, encouraging weight loss for obese people is a wonderful thing but inspiring eating and exercise disorders – not so much.

Compare the way Rachel looked during last night’s finale with the way she looked the last time she was seen, before going home to prepare for the finale. She looks thin but healthy and beautiful.

Let’s hope NBC and the show’s executives think about what all this means for its contestants and viewers. Enough people are reacting negatively to this season’s conclusion for some limitations or at least warnings to be made moving forward. Young viewers particularly should be warned about healthy dieting and proper health and fitness levels.

Jillian Michaels is fabulous by the way. I recently did her YouTube workout video, the top rated exercise YouTube video, and friggin loved it and her. She is fit, healthy, and beautiful and an LGTB role model. Typing “workout” into YouTube shows what a monopoly she has in the YouTube exercise video department.

Check out Michael’s “Banish Fat Boost Metabolism Complete Workout,” an amazing hour long workout, next time you can’t make it to the gym!
