It’s back, baby! Winter is coming….
Everyone’s favorite show featuring dungeons and dragons, zombies, warlords, princes and princesses, and basically anything the imagination can imagine will be back on HBO before you know it. Game of Thrones‘ fourth season premieres Sunday, April 6, to the delight of television enthusiasts and George R.R. Martin devotees.
I am so, so excited for this show to return. I loved it before it was hip to love it, basically from the very first week. It’s thrilling, sexy, adventurous, imaginative, and filled with incredible performances, costumes, sets, and stories. What’s not to like? And after the third season ended with the infamous “Red Wedding,” we know that there are no limits to what can happen on the show. Since seeing what happened happen (no spoilers here!), we know that Martin/the show’s writers truly know no bounds. Let the season 4 blood bath begin! I personally had to change who I was rooting for to win the whole thing since they went bye-bye, but at least I had a close second who is now my pick for future ruler of all the kingdoms.
The who’s who of Westeros headed east for a red carpet premiere in New York City on Tuesday, March 18 at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall. The stars of the HBO fantasy series put aside their quest for the Iron Throne and walked side by side looking suave and modern (a change of pace for the cast!) in a predominantly black and white color scheme.
Stars including Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey, and Peter Dinklage provided the star power as the season premiere episode spooled in the crowded theater. The string section of the famous New York Philharmonic worked the crowd into a fanboy frenzy by playing the Game of Thrones theme, conducted by the show’s composer, Ramin Djawadi.
Emilia Clarke plays the gorgeous, fair-haired queen and Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen. She doesn’t often wear black on the show so this Donna Karan dress was a welcome change of pace, while still ethereal and airy, like her costumes. She’s also wearing Manolo Blahnik shoes & Fred Leighton jewelry.
Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner play the seperated Stark sisters Arya and Sansa, but they looked join at the hip at the premiere after party, held at the American Museum of Natural History.
Turner is wearing Peter Pilloto Resort.
Williams is looking grown up and very pretty. I love her flash of color with the yellow pumps!
The incredibly talented Peter Dinklage arrived with wife Erica Schmidt. Dinklage has won both a Golden Globe and an Emmy for his portrayal of the dynamic Tyrion Lannister, and was nominated for an additional two Emmys.
Lena Headey looks stunning in this long Jenny Packham black gown. The actress stars as the conniving Cersei Lannister, sister of Tyrion.
Nathalie Emmanuel, who stars as Kalisi’s right hand woman Missandei, looks cool and confident in this Georges Chakra ensemble.
It’s so nice to see Hannah Murray all dolled up! She plays new mother Gilly, who is basically roaming the wild in rags. I love Gilly, she’s so sweet.
It’s Jack Gleeson, who plays the evil King Joffrey, looking dapper.
Look, it’s the awesome Gwendoline Christie . I love seeing her all dressed up too in this playful Giles dress. She plays the amazing knight Brienne of Tarth, definitely one of the show’s most beloved, sympathetic characters.
The cast poses alongside show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (fourth and fifth from the left, respectively). Second from the left is Richard Plepler, the CEO of HBO and farthest right is Michael Lombardo, President of Programming for HBO.
Here’s show executive producer Benioff with his wife, actress Amanda Peet. I really like this couple! And she’s spicing it up wearing gray. 😉 Peet’s outfit is very cool and sophisticated. Business meets fresh and fashion forward.
George R. R. Martin is the writer of the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, which the show was adapted from. He is finishing the seventh book in the epic fantasy series. This man is a genius!
