CBS’ political drama ‘Madam Secretary’ is one of the biggest hits of this past fall’s new television line-up. One of the highlights of the program (I should know, I recap it every week for Entertainment Weekly) is the relationship between the nation’s new Secretary of State Bess (played by the wonderful Tea Leoni) and her adoring husband, the consistently good Tim Daly. They duo have fantastic chemistry, act wonderfully together, and their loving, supportive relationship adds immensely to the program.
Fans of the show and the onscreen couple can rejoice because the recently divorced Leoni is dating Daly in real life! I love this show and love them both so I had to write about this!
“Their chemistry on set is electrifying,” a source told Us Magazine of Leoni, 48, and Daly, 58. “They have an amazing time filming.”
The good times are reportedly continuing off-camera, too (hooray!). On Friday, Nov. 14, the duo were seen strolling down a street in L.A.’s Venice area “with their arms wrapped around each other,” a witness says, adding, “They were definitely couple-y.”
Daly, a Private Practice alum, revealed back in September that the two actually went to the same high school in Vermont, years apart.
“She’s not a whiner. She wants to work hard and she wants to have fun,” he told Collider. “We get along really, really well. We have a really good time. I’ve gotten along with plenty of people, but the chemistry sucked. And I’ve hated people where the chemistry is great. It’s much better if you get along and the chemistry is good. That’s perfect.”
News of the new (awesome!) romance comes four months after Leoni’s divorce from ex-husband David Duchovny, with whom she has two kids. They were married for 14 years before announcing their separation in June 2011; their split was finalized in August. As a huge fan of Leoni’s, it’s nice that she can start fresh and perhaps have a less volatile relationship moving forward.
Daly, meanwhile, was married to Amy Van Nostrand from 1982 to 2010. They have two adult children. One is Sam Daly, who guest-starred on Madam Secretary two weekends ago. He played Win, the then-fiance of Daisy (played by broadway star and Mockingjay actress Patina Miller). I was lucky enough to interview Sam for EW and he could not have been nicer or easier to talk to.
Good luck to the great new couple!
