In honor of awards season, the New York Times is releasing its annual Great Performers issue this Sunday. The spread features some of the hottest actors and actresses of the year who gave amazing, career-defining performances.
The theme of this year’s celebration of outstanding thespians? – The Kiss. The magazine features nine couplings of stars, each engaging in a kiss of some sort – some lip-locked, some kisses more outside the box. But even more exciting than the sultry photo spread is the 9 Kisses mini movie, directed by Elaine Constantine, made up of nine quick clips back-to-back.
Reese Witherspoon (Wild) and Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game), Rosario Dawson (Top Five) and Jenny Slate (Obvious Child), and Shailene Woodley (The Fault in Our Stars) and Jack O’Connell (Unbroken) are among the duos featured in these fascinating minute-long clips. Making the videos extra cool and special? The fact that there is no talking, just interesting background sounds or music.
I want to name here all the huge stars involved. But part of the fun is the surprise of watching the movies back to back and not knowing who’s going to pop up next and with who, and seeing how they embrace in a kiss of some sort!
My favorite clips were definitely (1) Slate and Dawson ringing in the New Years with fun, sexy kisses in the back of a convertible, and (2) Belle beauty Gugu Mbatha Raw and Whiplash star Miles Teller embracing passionately in an intense and emotional wedding kiss at what can be assumed is her wedding to another man.
