THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW: L-R: Laverne Cox and Ben Vareen.

Entertainment Weekly, how I love thee.

Today, my favorite periodical’s online site offered pop culture fans a first glimpse at the stunning and talented Laverne Cox as Dr. Frank-N-Furter. This transexual from Transylvania is the lead role in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which is being remade for FOX and will be broadcast later this year.

Cox takes on the role that Tim Curry originated both on stage and in the beloved, classic 1975 film. Cox told EW, “I get tweets from people, ‘Please don’t f— up Rocky Horror Picture Show!’ I showed my brother pictures of me in character and he was like, ‘You were preparing your whole life for this.’ ” As a standout on the hit Netflix show Orange is the New Black and as an influential LGBT advocate, Cox has made herself a household name in recent years.

The new Frank-N-Furter look is designed, along with all the costumes for the Show, by Tony-winner William Ivey Long. “We were on set and a reporter saw me and said I looked like the love child of Grace Jones and David Bowie. I said ‘That’s exactly right.’ I think we mix up the look more than they did in the original,” Cox stated. “It’s inspired by the original but it’s really our own take. It’s way more elaborate and couture. [Director] Kenny Ortega had this vision that Frank was at this old theater and found these old burlesque costumes and is, like, using them and wearing them now but has altered them a bit.”

Cox is seen in the photo with Ben Vereen, who plays Dr. Scott. Other noteworthy performers in the FOX broadcast include Adam Lambert as Eddie, Victoria Justice as Janet, Annaleigh Ashford as Columbia, and Tim Curry making a cameo as the Criminologist.
